He wrote:

As I have slim legs, I found the 30 hole boots swamped
my legs leaving a wide gap at the top; so I unstitched
the back strip, undid the stitching up the leg and recut
the leather to form a slimmer ankle and a curve in at the
top of the leg to match the profile of my own leg.   I then
restitched, using a daisy wheel on the leather to mark the
new holes, and sewed up the back again to give a much
slimmer profile.   Each boot took about 4-5 hours to cut
and sew.   Well worth it, though, as they are very comfy.
